I love photography and it is always hard for me to choose black and white or color They both offer so much detail in their own way. When I did the photoshoot I was very financially limited to the number of pictures I could purchase. The photographer made it much harder by offering both black and white color options.
I love this shot in both black and white and color for different reasons. The color option offers details to be more clear. My fingernail white tips against the dark skin on my legs and black background. I think the details of my makeup and eyelashes are more obvious. You can see my obvious tan lines, even though this was photographed in March. The color option brings me to the front of the picture.
The black and white version calls to me in different ways. There are just shades of black and white with no color. It has a more profound and dark feel to it. It has light and dark shadows that bring me into focus with just the camera’s focus. All the things that drew my eye in the color photo are still there, not as obvious. While it is clear (at least to me) that I am wearing makeup, makeup isn’t the first thing that I see. Interestingly, the black and white photo looks more natural than the color photo precisely because of the makeup.
I love both of these photos and think the photographer did a great job capturing what we were looking to capture. This was her first time trying a water piece. There was a massive piece of plexy glass in front of me that she sprayed with water. We misted my body a bit to look like I was in the shower, but I think the black and white also looks like I am in front of a window, which speaks to the exhibitionist in me!
